Project Genesis: Club Coaching is an online group powerlifting training programme limited to 1 year access.

Who is Project Genesis for

We designed this programme specifically for powerlifters who are still attempting to find their footing in their sport. If you are trying to establish good technique and learn to become a better powerlifter – this is for you.

Why we created Project Genesis

We wanted to solve a problem for the newer or unguided athlete. This athlete wastes a lot of time making mistakes with their training and development as an athlete.

This athlete is also the athlete who has the ability to make a fast rate of progress with consistency, appropriate training and good technique.

When bad habits are built in, it becomes hard to unlearn those habits.

So we thought, if we were to equip the athlete everything that they fundamentally need to learn and do in training – what would that look like?

Well, that would look like Project Genesis

Our ultimate goal is to give you the skills and confidence to be able to become an autonomous and critically-thinking powerlifter.

Who are the coaches?

Norman Cheung is an Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach under the UKSCA and a Powerlifting Coach of 8 years with British Powerlifting international team coaching experience of 10 international competitions. He has produced international medallists and international university teams in his career.

Jun Jie “JJ” Ng is a powerlifting coach for the Powerlifting Singapore National Team. He works with athletes across varying levels with a expertise and emphasis on proper movement, habits and mindset. He is also a competitive powerlifter that has medalled Nationally and Internationally and continues to compete. Putting into practice what he preaches. He is also the co-founder of Technique Matters, which is a YouTube Channel providing up-to-date powerlifting content.

How it works

  • Purpose Built Weekly Prescription
    • The training program will be delivered on a weekly basis and updated as individual tabs on a master Google Sheets file shared exclusively for you. This programme is purpose built for the powerlifter who is still establishing themselves with good technique.
  • Weekly Club Call
    • The weekly club call is our means of making sure that you are supported through the training on a regular basis. We will support you through the progressions and teach you the rationale for every aspect of the training. Along with the program walkthrough, we will be delivering a syllabus of lessons designed to advance you as an athlete as fast as possible. Cut out all the noise that other powerlifters experience!
  • Private Slack Community
    • This will be the home of the Project Genesis community. You will have an opportunity to discuss all things training with your peers and coaches. We are looking for the community to support each other as we grow together. Any necessary updates will also be delivered via the Slack application. 
  • Asking Questions
    • Questions can be directed to ask via the Slack channel as well as the weekly video calls. Our aim is to get through all of the questions in as much detail as possible. We may decide that certain questions are better addressed via video calls so make sure you’re tuning in or catching up on them.
  • Clear and Precise Instructions
    • You will have access to an exclusive video library and we will be explaining exactly how we want you to perform each and every exercise. There will be opportunities for you to upload your videos and have it critiqued for your benefit.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do payments work
    • Bank Transfer or PayPal. Direct to the PayPal link on either a monthly or annual basis
  • I’m injured. Can I still join?
    • If you are currently nursing an injury, we would not recommend that you join Project Genesis. If you have a previous injury but have been cleared to return to training by a medical professional, then this programme would be appropriate.
  • What will I need?
    • Access to a gym with barbells, squat racks, bench press and dumbbells. Basic knowledge of the gym equipment and a positive attitude. 
  • How does programming work? How often is it updated?
    • There is a master programme template on Google Sheets that is purpose built for Project Genesis. Programming is prescribed on a weekly basis on a separate tab for you to copy onto your version.
  • Is this programme individualised to me?
    • The general structure of the programme is largely the same for the group. However there will be flexible options to adjust certain exercises and autoregulate based on your level of fatigue, readiness and response to your weekly performance. The training is overall reactive to your progress.
  • How long does training take?
    • The training should take between 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes. The training will be 3x per week.
  • How much support does the coaches provide other than programming?
    • This product is more than just group programming. This is very much an educational product as much as it is a training product. You will get access to an exclusive weekly video call where we answer questions that you submit to us during the week. We will be going through the most comprehensive learning syllabus that we believe every powerlifter should know. You will also be able to direct message us through the Slack channel.
  • What about prepping for a specific meet/competitions?
    • The program is fundamentally looking to develop you as a powerlifter and built around set periods of testing (twice within the year and once at the end of the program). This will allow you to not miss any part of the developmental pathway. Should you still wish to compete, you may get in contact with one of the coaches to write a specific meet prep for you at a discounted rate.
  • Do you give refunds?
    • Refunds are not available under any circumstances. We are committed to your long term development and expect you to stay on for the duration you’ve agreed to.
  • Is nutrition covered?
    • There is no individualised nutritional prescription but we do cover essential nutritional topics to help you structure your own dietary habits.
  • Do I need to have a certain strength level to join?
    • This programme is designed for the novice lifter who has only been within the sport for less than 2 years.
  • Can this work in a garage gym?
    • Absolutely, if you have a barbell, a squat rack and bench press. It would be incredibly useful if you had some form of dumbbell or kettlebell for accessory exercises. You are ready to begin this programme.
  • What if I am in the middle of a training block?
    • The first phase of training is designed to be low stress so it is very easy to transition from your previous programme onto this.
